When you can’t afford Christmas…

When you can’t afford Christmas but don’t want to be the grinch, get creative and make DIY gifts, it’s personalized and can save you money (sometimes).

This year with my wedding planning expenses I can’t afford to get every one gifts, so I’ll be buying the children gifts as always, and making DIY gifts for the adults.

So far I’ve already made two of these coconut oil shea butter hair and body cream. I have 2 more DIY gifts to make.

What’s needed for this coconut oil shea butter hair lotion is:

  • Coconut oil
  • Shea butter
  • Avocado oil
  • Jojoba oil
  • Rosehip oil
  • Argan oil
  • Rosemary oil
  • Lavender oil
  • Blueberry fragrance (I wanted to recreate the scent from curls blueberry bliss products, it didn’t really work out lol)

The only 2 main ingredients are shea butter and coconut oil the rest of the oils are your preference, I picked light oils that are packed with nutrients and are supposed to aid with hair growth and moisture. All the ingredients, with the exception of the coconut oil, I ordered on Amazon.

I used about 3 parts shea butter and 2 parts coconut oil and I just eye balled the oils, it’s suggested to use a hand mixer to mix and get a fluffy consistency but I just used a whisk (this took quite some time), make sure your shea butter is softened before you begin this excursion! The bowl I used also came with a lid (got it from dollar tree) I’m going to tie a bow on it and gift to my mom and sister in law. I made one for myself which I’ve already started using and I love it. Even though the main intent of this gift is to be used on the hair it is also very moisturizing for the skin (I wouldn’t use it on the face), but after I use this on my hair whatever excess I have on my hand, I massage into my hand like lotion.

The other 2 DIY gifts I’ll be making are a body scrub which I’ve made once before, and a couple mini bars in a jar.

DIY mini bar in a bottle is really simple and fun. The items needed are:

  • A virety of shot size alcohol
  • Mason jar with lid

Just add the alcohol bottles in the mason jar, the key here is presentation, line the jar with something cute and add a bow on top! Gift to the men in your life or the party animal you know.

I’ve made this DIY body scrub in the past with just 2 ingredients: salt and your favorite lotion (you can go this route too) but in an age where people like to be more natural and know what is in their products this year I’ll be using different ingredients. This year the ingredients I’ll be using are:

  • Salt (and maybe epsom salt)
  • Coconut oil
  • Shea butter
  • Lavender (for scent)

All these gifts I’ll be making, I’ll also make one for myself as well, gift myself! 😁

Let me know other DIY gifts you guys have in mind.

Until next time…
